ActiPatch Pain Therapy Device

Actipatch is an easy-to-use device which can help provide pain relief. It utilises PEMF therapy (pulsed electromagnetic field therapy) in order to encourage cells in painful areas to become energised and boost healing. This device emits electromagnetic radiation which is harmless and unnoticeable while the Actipatch is working.

This is a drug-free method of pain relief which can prove practical and comfortable for many. There are other non-drug devices available such as TENS devices which, like Actipatch, is a form of electro-therapy. However, whereas methods like TENS can be noticeable when used on the body, an Actipatch is barely noticeable but can provide effective pain relief for long spells if used correctly.

Actipatch explained

Actipatch is a drug-free device which can be used for pain relief. These small and lightweight wearable devices send out electromagnetic pulses to treat areas where pain is occurring. It is most often used by people who have chronic pain issues. They are worn by patients for lengthy spells (at least 8 consecutive hours a day) and they can be used either along with pain relief medication or as a stand-alone treatment.

How Actipatch works

Actipatch devices are a portable, personal-use version of pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF). Such devices emit low levels of electromagnetic radiation to help encourage damaged cells to naturally repair themselves. The idea behind it is that the device amplifies the spin of electrons in the cells of a damaged area, restoring their energy as a result. This restored energy grants the cells the ability to function efficiently again.

Does Actipatch work like TENS?

TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and, like PEMF, it is a type of electro-therapy. However, there are differences in how the two work.

While a PEMF device like Actipatch focuses on repairing cells, a TENS unit prevents pain signals being sent to the brain and does nothing for cell repair. Another major difference is that you can feel a TENS device when it pulses and it can sometimes feel prickly or uncomfortable. An Actipatch is not noticeable when working, except perhaps the adhesive strips which hold it in place.

Also, the pain relief a TENS device provides stops once you remove, whereas an Actipatch can provide longer pain relief after its removal, as long as you’ve used it for at least 8 consecutive hours in a day.

All of this doesn’t necessarily mean that Actipatch or other PEMF devices are the best treatment for pain relief. People react in different ways to different types of therapy and the characteristics of TENS may suit certain people better compared to Actipatch which may have little effect in comparison.

How do I use Actipatch?

The device comes as a loop and the loop area should be placed directly over the source of the pain. You use a couple of adhesive patches to keep the loop in the correct position.

To achieve maximum pain relief, the device should be worn continuously in one area until pain diminishes. The more you wear it, the better it works and it is safe to use 24/7. The Actipatch is drug and ingredient free so it’s safe to be worn continuously and you can even use this device while taking medications.

Where and when can I wear an Actipatch?

You can wear an Actipatch through the day, including when you are in bed. Some people find that 24-hour use is better for treating pain symptoms. You may, however, find it tricky to keep the loop in position if you keep the device on overnight.

It’s important not to get the Actipatch wet because it uses electricity to work. Therefore, you should avoid wearing it while showering, while in the bath or while swimming. Also, if you have a pacemaker, you should avoid placing an Actipatch over where the pacemaker is located. We also advise that you avoid using Actipatch while you are pregnant.

Can wearing an Actipatch cause side effects?

There are no known side effects associated with Actipatch. Since this device does not contain any drugs or other ingredients, it is extremely unlikely to ever cause any side effects. If, however, you do experience new symptoms while using Actipatch, please contact the manufacturer of the product and report your symptoms to the MHRA yellow card scheme. The scheme, which is available from the Google Play Store and App Store, allows patients and manufacturers to keep track of any adverse effects which certain products could cause.

Can I wear more than one Actipatch?

If you have pain in more than one area, say both your back and knee for instance, then it is safe to wear two Actipatch devices at the same time. Just bear in mind that each device can run for a maximum of 720 hours. If you need replacements, then you can easily order more from our website.

How effective is Actipatch?

Previous studies have found that around 60-70% of users of Actipatch reported an improvement in their condition, with pain levels decreasing by an average of 53-59%. These figures are based on 5,000 assessments of Actipatch. The study concluded that actipatch delivers “a clinically meaningful reduction of chronic musculoskeletal pain”.

Other pain conditions which Actipatch has been found to be effective against include the following:

Arthritis pain
Fibromyalgia
Neuropathy
Osteoarthritis
Post-surgical pain
Sports injuries
Sprains
Tendonitis
