What is Regaine for men?

Regaine is a medicated solution in the form of a foam that is applied to the scalp to prevent hair loss and encourage hair growth. Regaine for Men is specifically designed to treat a type of hair loss known as male-pattern baldness or medically known as androgenetic alopecia. This type of hair loss is hereditary and is usually characterised by thinning of the hair around the temples and crown, and a receding hairline.

Regaine is a medicated product that only works for hair loss in men. The key ingredient in Regaine is minoxidil which helps to reverse the hair loss process and encourage new hair growth.

How does Regaine extra strength solution work?

The active ingredient in Regaine extra strength solution treats hair loss and promotes regrowth by stimulating and prolonging the growing phase (anagen) in the hair growth cycle. It stops the shrinkage of hair follicles by increasing blood supply to the follicles. Regaine can make hair look fuller and longer.

This product works best on recent hair loss, hair that has only been falling out for a short period of time.

Who is Regaine suitable for?

This Regaine hair loss treatment is suitable for males only aged 18 and over, however, it’s not recommended for males over the age of 49. This medicine is most suitable for younger men who have recently started to lose their hair or have small areas of baldness. Regaine may not be the most suitable treatment for those who are older and have experienced hair loss for many years.

In some cases, Regaine hair foam will not be suitable despite having the type of hair loss that Regaine is intended to treat. This hair loss treatment must not be used if:

  • You are female
  • You are under the age of 18 and above the age of 49
  • You are allergic to minoxidil or any other ingredient in Regaine solution
  • You are completely bald, your scalp is shaved, or you have lost hair all over your body
  • The cause of your hair loss is unknown or it hasn’t been diagnosed as hereditary
  • You have high blood pressure
  • You have sunburn or psoriasis on the scalp
  • You have any cuts, wounds, skin conditions, or dressings on the scalp

Your scalp needs to be healthy while using Regaine extra strength foam. If you’re unsure about the condition of your scalp speak to your doctor before using this medicine. You should also consult your doctor about using this product if you have heart disease or any heart problems.

Can I use Regaine if I’m taking other medication?

You should speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you’re taking any other medication which may interact with Regaine and make it unsafe for you to use. This includes blood pressure medicines and medicines that are applied to the head to treat scalp conditions such as Dithranol to treat psoriasis, Tretinoin to treat skin disorders, corticosteroids, and petrolatum which can be found in some hair products.

How to use Regaine hair foam?

Regaine hair foam is only intended to be used on the scalp, if you accidentally get it anywhere else on the body you should wash it off immediately, take care around the eyes in particular as it may cause irritation. You should also wash and dry your hands thoroughly before and after use. Your hair and scalp also needs to be dry before you apply the solution.

Regaine extra strength foam is simple to use, just gently massage no more than 1g which is the equivalent to half a capful of the solution into the scalp. You can repeat this 12 hours later as there should be at least 12 hours between each use.

Are there any side effects of Regaine?

All medicines have side effects, and some side effects have been reported with the use of Regaine, however, not everyone will get them. A headache is the most common side effect of Regaine along with itching, or unwanted hair growth on other parts of the body, it’s important to wash your hands after using the foam to avoid this happening. In rare cases, you may experience a change in the texture of your hair, if this happens stop using this product.

You must also stop using this product immediately and seek medical help if you experience any of the following serious side effects:

  • Chest pain
  • Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat
  • Difficulty breathing

These side effects require immediate medical attention as you may be experiencing an allergic reaction.

Regaine for men results

To get the best results from Regaine you must be suitable to use this product and use it correctly. Younger men who have been losing their hair for a short period of time are more likely to see effective results than men who have been bald for many years. The hair growth cycle is a slow process so it may take up to 8 weeks before you start seeing results and the hair may be soft at first but should return its normal texture, continue using the foam for continued growth but if you haven’t noticed any effect after 16 weeks of use, stop using this medicine.
